Boletus regius is a basidiomycete fungus family Boletaceae, that inhabits hardwood forests of temperate zones. It is a rare species that usually occurs under the cover of deciduous trees, the type of chestnut or beech, and bears fruit of solitary or in groups of two or three basidiocarps, in summer and early autumn. It is an edible species, but very rare. The specific epithet “regius” significa “real”, and refers to its beautiful coloration, pink presenting red tones in the cuticle of the cap, golden yellow in the area of the pores and lemon yellow foot. Prior to the description of this species by Krombholz, It was considered a variety of Boletus appendiculatus, in the sección Calopodes.
