Boletus regius

Boletus regius is a basidiomycete fungus family Boletaceae, that inhabits hardwood forests of temperate zones. It is a rare species that usually occurs under the cover of deciduous trees, the type of chestnut or beech, and bears fruit of solitary or in groups of two or three basidiocarps, in summer and early autumn. It is an edible species, but very rare. The specific epithet “regius” significa “real”, and refers to its beautiful coloration, pink presenting red tones in the cuticle of the cap, golden yellow in the area of ​​the pores and lemon yellow foot. Prior to the description of this species by Krombholz, It was considered a variety of Boletus appendiculatus, in the sección Calopodes.

It has a hat from 6 and 15 cm diameter, spherical and flattened in its early stages as it matures the esporocarpo. It is covered with reddish pink fibrils on a pale yellow background. As you get older, Hues are becoming more uniform and off, and cuticle cracking leaves. Tubes and pores are narrow and yellowish, and they are taking the mature green tones. The foot is slightly wider at the base and lemon yellow, and has sometimes reddish in at the top and a very fine yellow reticulum. The meat is white or yellow lemon and its color becomes more intense in areas close to the tubes and taking pink tones in the bottom of the foot and close to the cuticle. Its flavor is sweet and mild odor. The spore is colored pardoolivácea.
