Aikido against a bicycle 2nd part

cool art cycling in town by Shohei Hanazaki and nice photostream

In my last post I talked about the time I Aikido technique against a bicycle.

A man on a bicycle on a sidewalk in Tokyo – where it is assumed that you can not ride a bike – He walked through a gap wide enough for one person. He did not mind hitting me. He was trying to force me to jump off the road. There was nowhere to escape sideways due to a wall on one side and something blocking the outside of the sidewalk.

I made a movement irimi – get in. I left the line of the bike enough to not touch me. And with a throat spearhand I did brake suddenly.

He modificado la dinámica. Yo no me lastimé. Nadie más resultó herido. El tipo agresivo no se lastimó. He realized that he could not intimidate the situation in their own way. It showed that the movements of aikido were effective in the real world. I had no time to think of an answer. I moved automatically.

This was done 15 or 20 years and maybe I'm a little more patient now. But even then I did not feel comfortable with the result. He had been the boy who could not intimidate a trained martial artist. But so what. That's not really a lesson. Probably felt the humiliation and frustration and anger.

So if it happened today, I hope that the result was different. I hope that the result was such that the pride of man does not lose out. But he realized he had made a mistake.

I'm not sure what you would do differently. Aikido is not something to be prepared. If you keep an empty mind something happens. But I would think that I would be safe, He too, and he did not return to do.

At the time of that incident I was on my way to the dojo and when I switched to another instructor told him he had done irimi against a bicycle! Must a student mentioned haberselo. But sometimes the stories change in the narrative. A few days later one of the students, dijo, Niall Sensei can show us how to do shiho nage – spinning technique – against a bicycle? Hmm. Eso sería un poco más difícil.
