Snowden was an aerial gunner in the novel Catch-22, who was killed in combat. The question accusatory, Where are the old Snowden? is a play on a line from a poem by François Villon called Ballade des dames du temps jadis, Ballad of the ladies of yesteryear. Bertolt Brecht uses the line also. The question, Where are? is a literary motif called Ubi sunt for short. The name comes from the Latin where are those who have gone before us? questions Ubi sunt remind us of the transience of life. Impermanence is a common theme in Zen and Japanese culture.

Aikido is a martial art mystery. It is full of paradoxes. These are a few. If you think of any more, Please add it then.
