Barlia is a genus of the orchid family with a single species or Himantoglossum Barlia metlesicsiana Teschner metlesicsianum, previously also he had the kind Barlia robertiana that happened in 1999 to género Himantoglossum, como Himantoglossum robertianum. Barlia is closely related to gender and Serapias Himantoglossum.

Named in honor of botanist Jean Baptiste Barla (1817-1886).

“metlesicsiana”, kind dedicated to Hans Metlesics, Austrian contemporary naturalist, who gathered in the Canary Islands.

terrestrial genus which develops buried tuber, with rounded or ovoid, with deciduous, a stem having an elongated terminal inflorescence, Cubic, with numerous fragrant flowers.

A plant 60 cm de altura. cauline leaves ovadolanceoladas.

Inflorescence a dense spike,of 24 a 40 flowers and bracts overhanging flowers. lateral petals greenish in the beam and red spots on the undersides. pink lip, white or purple, with red spots.

Fruit in elongated capsule, dehiscente through side windows.
